Jettison Clause - Clause in a Bill of Lading or Charter-Party setting out the circumstances under which a master is entitled to jettison goods from a ship.

Joint Survey - Inspection carried out by a surveyor on behalf of two parties, the cost generally being borne by both.

Jurisdiction Clause - Clause in a Bill of Lading or Charter-Party, which stipulates that any dispute between the parties arising from the contract, be resolved in a court of law, as opposed to arbitration. It also specifies which county has jurisdiction, that is, the authority to administer justice. Also known as litigation clause.
